This border had very much outgrown it's space and had become overgrown and untidy.
The brief was to create a rustic lawned area that would ramble around the apple trees giving an orchard-like feel.
By underplanting the turf with a number of bulbs there are unexpected flashes of colour throughout the season. The garden owner no longer has to worry about keeping on top of an area that was too much for them and has an outlook that they are delighted with.
The owner of this border had begun to feel that it's high maintenance planting was too much to keep up with. Having started clearing it out, Green & Gorgeous was called in.
The brief was to remove the remaining stubborn roots and create an attractive but low maintenance border using conifers as the backdrop and with a gravel finish to the bed. For this long, thin area Green & Gorgeous devised a planting plan to maximise the visual impact by using a simple pattern of plants repeated down the length of the border, giving a feeling of unity.
The background of Junipers and Photinias will act as a foil for the flashes of colour brought by the Hellebores in winter with the Euonymus plants maintaining the structure at the front all year round. In the summer, a surprising flourish will be provided by the tall flowering spikes of Acanthus, hidden behind the backdrop for the rest of the year. The result is a modern low maintenance border, and a very happy customer!
The owner of this garden was building a conservatory and wanted a garden to enjoy from inside. The budget was not large, so low cost materials were used wherever possible. Soft rounded lines to match those of the existing bed have been continued throughout , leading the eye through the space and making it feel cosy and welcoming.
A pond was part of the brief, so a wildlife friendly area with a shallow beach along one side was constructed, the sandy coloured stone helping to make the transition from the softness of the planting to the harder lines of the patio and conservatory.
Small plants with big ideas were used here, and in no time at all these will fill out to make a lush and striking focal point for the garden. A raised bed and selection of pots have been used at the far end of the garden to add height and mask the bare white wall and old patio, without the expense of rebuilding.
Overall, quite a transformation!
The brief here was to curb the enthusiasm of some escaping chickens! Their owner found they were escaping their run all the time, and causing havoc whilst out.
Green & Gorgeous was asked to provide a larger run, that was more secure.
The finished chicken run uses high posts and taught chicken wire, with sunken kick boards to make it harder for the birds to scratch their way out underneath.
Both owner and chickens are happy with the end result.
The brief for this client was to create a dual-purpose garden, with useable space for both adults and children. They also wanted to include space for growing herbs and vegetables and a water feature.
Green & Gorgeous provided a full design & management service - tailoring the design to fit this brief and devising a garden with a large deck for entertaining, and a rejuvinated lawn for kids to enjoy.
To avoid extra expense the existing patio area was retained, but expanded to define the space. The planting plan allowed for plenty of movement and seasonal colour, also selecting shrubs that would complement the water feature. Raised beds were created for herbs and vegetables and the hazel hurdles screen the compost area.
The brief for this front garden was to create a functional parking area that was also nice to look at!
The resulting design provided a suitably-sized area of block-paving, using a variety of soft tones in an informal and relaxed shape.
To bring this area and the planted area together, a small path was constructed through the planting to allow more direct pedestrian access to the front door. The plants chosen are largely low maintenance but provide loads of colour, scent and structure to create an area which complements the hard landscaping. A thick bark mulch was also added to suppress weed growth, reducing maintenance still further.
Overall, a very successful transformation.
The brief for this garden was to transform an old pond into a low maintenance new feature, on a small budget.
By removing all the plants from within the pond, Green & Gorgeous was able to fill it with decorative cobbles and then place a water feature of rose quartz with the re-used irises to soften the overall look. The rear of the area was cleared of stones, and the old stream removed.
The area was then transformed into a large border, incorporating lots of foliage texture and the bright colours of acid-loving plants. Overall, the area has become a low maintenance, yet attractive area - without breaking the bank!
The owner of this garden wanted to transform a messy area into a sloping lawn, encompassing the existing trees into the landscape.
Green & Gorgeous brought in many tonnes of good quality topsoil, which was then graded to ensure an attractive slope for the finished lawn, and a comfortable step down from the patio.
The turf was then laid and the result is a lush green lawn to be enjoyed both inside and out!
